ARCHITECTURE,
PLANNING AND DESIGN STUDENTS SKETCH TO SUCCEED
MANHATTAN - The student entries in the 2011 Ted and Sue Knapp Rendering Competition illustrated the great drawing skill of the students in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design.
Students
competed in four categories: freehand black and white, freehand
color, computer, and mixed media. The jury who selected the winners
praised the “tedious skill” and “complexity” shown in the
drawings.
The winner of the best in show award receives $200. Winners placing first in each category will receive $150. Second place winners will receive $100, and juror’s choice award winners will receive $50.

Best in Show - “Arched Window in Union Station” by Megan Hohensinner, first year student at UMKC, Independence, Mo.
1st place - “Delineate: Precision” by Aaron Garcia, third-year architecture student, Denver, Colo.
2nd place - “The Whole Town” by Yosuke Michishita, second-year architecture student, Yokohama, Japan
Juror’s Choice - “Via Secca” by Timothy Sandweg, fifth-year architecture student, St. Louis, Mo.
Juror’s Choice - “Dark as Light” by Maria Guerrero, second-year architecture student, Olathe, Kan.
Freehand Color
1st place - “Exeter” by Kristin Van Dusen, fifth-year architecture student, Wichita, Kan.
2nd place - “Jubilee Church” by Conner McGowan, fifth-year architecture student, Crete, Neb.
Juror’s Choice - “Translucent Delicacy” by Darcy McDonough, third-year interior architecture and product design student, Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Computer
1st place - “Dwelling Mechanism for the Terminal Biologist - View of Lanterns” by Kyle Schleicher, fifth-year architecture student, Merriam, Kan.
2nd place - “Kansas City Woodworkers’ Collaborative” by Alex Callow, third-year architecture student, Graham, Mo.
Mixed Media
1st place - “Wine & Trace” by Will Leonard, third-year architecture student, Columbia, S.C.
