Jones Receives Fletcher Award

Professor James S. Jones recently received the 2009 James A. Fletcher Memorial Award from the Manhattan Arts Center (MAC) for his watercolor, “Hopi Ritual Master.”

Jones has been a member of the K-State architecture faculty since 1982. He has been a member of the MAC Watercolor Studio and exhibits regularly in MAC’s Wrap It Up art exhibit and sale. His artwork has also been exhibited and collected in 30 U.S. states and presented in Canada, England, Italy, Honduras, Micronesia and Turkey. He was named “one of Western Canada’s Emerging Artists” in Arts:  Profiles of the Future, New Canadian Artists.

This is the fourth year of the Fletcher Award juried 2D art competition, open only to Kansas artists. The $500 prize was donated by Mrs. Mavis Fletcher in memory of her husband.

The winning artwork will be displayed at the Manhattan Arts Center, 1520 Poyntz Avenue, from November 6-December 24, 2009.
