Gary Haycock Retires

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Gary Haycock is recognized for nearly 33 years of dedicated service to Kansas State University and the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. Gary is retiring at the end of the 2008-2009 school year as a professor in the Department of Interior Architecture and Product Design.

A native of Caldwell, Idaho, Gary has a bachelor of fine arts degree from Pratt Institute and a master of architecture from the University of Oregon. He began teaching at K-State in 1976 as an assistant professor in the interior architecture program. From 1977-1989, he taught beginning students in the environmental design studies program, then returned to interior architecture in the fall of 1989. In 1982, he was promoted to associate professor and in 1989 to professor.

Gary is best known for formerly administering the College of Architecture, Planning and Design Design Discovery program for high school students, as well as for teaching legions of architectural engineering students how to draft, a skill he utilized in his own construction and millworking enterprises. He also contributed to the KSU and CAPD communities through service on many committees.

We express our sincere appreciation to Gary for his efforts through the years and wish him well in retirement as he pursues his other interests, including alpaca farming.
