Condia + Ornelas Architects, Manhattan, was one
of six firms to receive an award from the American Institute of Architects Kansas at the organization’s Annual Design Awards held in
Wichita.
Firm principals Robert Condia and Wendy Ornelas are professors of architecture
in the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design.
Ornelas is also associate dean.
Condia + Ornelas Architects received a Merit Award
for Excellence in Interior Architecture for GAIA
Salon & Wellness Center located in Manhattan. GAIA owners are Lisa Costlow,
Ralph Diaz, and Mary Fischer; the contractor was Acropolis Modern, owned by
Christopher Spaw.
The jurors commented, “A very warm material palette enhances the experience of
this intimately scaled space. The smaller scaled spaces are well defined yet
flow seamlessly into each other. The project is very well detailed, playful and
exciting.”
Jurors were Kevin Daly, AIA, of Daly Genik, Patrick Tighe, AIA of Tighe
Architecture, and Lawrence Scarpa, AIA of Pugh + Scarpa, jury chair, all of Santa Monica, California.
