CAPD Student Photography Competition and Exhibit

Entries for the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning, and Design Third Annual Student Photography Competition are being displayed in the Chang Gallery of Seaton Hall through Friday, May 1.  The exhibit is open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.

The competition was open to all students in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, according to competition organizer Fayez Husseini, professor of interior architecture and product design. The competition jury was composed of K-State faculty/staff Mr. David Mayes, KSU Photographer, and Mr. Jim Rigg, Art and Design Director, Educational Communications Center; and Mr. James Tyler, free-lance photographer and artist, Emporia, KS.

Competition prizes were sponsored by K-State alumnus Mr. Thomas A. Tyler, B Arch 1974, and his firm, Answers Inc., of St. Louis, MO. Prizes valued at $130 for First Place, $100 for Second Place, $75 for Third Place and $50 for Honorable Mention were awarded.

Nineteen of the 103 entries in the blind competition were selected for special recognition.

Black and White:  First Place - Michael Meihaus, fifth-year landscape architecture, St. Louis, MO; Second Place - Steve Seng, fifth-year architecture, Overland Park, KS; Third Place - Omar Herrera, fourth-year architecture, Emporia, KS; Honorable Mention - Rachel Elise Allen, fifth-year interior architecture and product design, Overland Park, KS.

Creative and Other Subject Matter:  First Place - Dustin Clare, fifth-year architecture, Dodge City, KS; Second Place - Kristin Van Dusen, third-year architecture, Wichita, KS; Third Place - Jill Nichols, fifth-year interior architecture and product design, Blair, NE; Honorable Mention - Margaret Blair, fifth-year architecture, Lenexa, KS.

Exterior Architecture:  First Place - Margaret Blair; Second Place - John Wolf, third-year architecture, Milwaukee, WI; Third Place - Dustin Clare; Honorable Mention - Paul Jarvis, third-year interior architecture and product design, St. Louis, MO; Honorable Mention - Patrick Ptomey, first-year environmental design studies, Euless, TX.

Interiors and Architectural Details:  First Place - Nathaniel Smith, fith-year architecture, St. Louis, MO; Second Place - Kyle Rogler, third-year architecture, Olathe, KS; Third Place - Mariann Wright, fifth-year interior architecture and product design, Kennett, MO.

Landscape:  First Place - Forrest Smith, third-year architecture, Houston, TX; Second Place - Christa Bowman, third-year interior architecture and product design, Minneapolis, MN; Third Place - Nathaniel Smith.
