Dan W. Donelin, FASLA, AICP, FCELA, has announced he will retire as professor and head of the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University.

His retirement is effective June 30, 2009.

Donelin came to K-State from the University of Florida in 1995. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and his master’s degree from Michigan State University.

A capable administrator and educator, Donelin has also had a distinguished career in support of the professional organizations of landscape architecture, including the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB). He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Donelin’s numerous service and academic awards include the CELA President’s Award in 2001 for foresight and leadership skills in the advancement of CELA, an ASLA Merit Award for his work with Schoolyard Ecosystems and the Florida Wildlife Federation’s Special Conservation Educator of the Year Award. He has also achieved fellowship in both CELA and ASLA.

According to Dennis Law, dean, K-State College of Architecture, Planning and Design, Donelin possesses a global vision of design education. “He brought a national reputation, highly developed leadership skills and a proven record of research and scholarship to our college. During his tenure, Dan has further strengthened our landscape architecture and planning progams,” Law said.

A national search will be conducted during the 2008-2009 school year for a successor.
