Alumnus Establishes Photography Competition Award

Tom Tyler, St. Louis, has made a gift and commitment totaling $25,000 to the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University to establish the Thomas A. Tyler/Answers Inc. Architectural and Environmental Photography Competition Award.

This fund will provide awards to students who win an annual photography competition that will be conducted in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. The number of recipients and the award amounts will be determined by the competition jury within the college.

Tyler is a native of Concordia, Kansas. He graduated from K-State in 1974 with a bachelor of interior architecture. Following his graduation, Tyler served as an instructor in the K-State interior architecture program. In 1983, he founded Answers, Inc., a firm that specializes in architecture, interior architecture, facility management and workplace safety. The firm serves health care, educational, governmental, corporate and commercial clients. Tom is an organizing member of the St. Louis chapter USGBC and has received the AIA’s presidential citation for contributions to the profession.

Tyler is a member of Presidents Club, a KSU Foundation philanthropic leadership organization for friends and alumni of K-State, and the K-State Alumni Association. He was honored by the College of Architecture, Planning and Design as an alumni fellow in 1996, and received a distinguished service award from the college in 2007.
