The College of Architecture, Planning and Design recognizes Carolyn Thompson for nearly two decades of teaching at Kansas State University.

Carolyn has been a faculty member in the Department of Interior Architecture and Product Design since 1989, acquiring tenure and promotion to associate professor in 1995. She developed and taught courses in facility management, programming and the contemporary interior. She has taught professional practice and design studios on all levels. Her years of professional experience in architecture and interiors focused on corporate facility planning and relocation management for major corporate headquarters.

Since 1995, Carolyn has developed and coordinated the department’s lecture series, bringing to campus distinguished scholars and professionals in interior architecture and in furniture and product design. She served as an advisor to master of architecture students whose theses dealt with facility and project management, strategic planning, corporate real estate and workplace transformation. She also organized the IAPD program’s 2006 accreditation visit, coordinated its program evaluation report, and chaired the recent search for head of the Department of Interior Architecture and Product Design.

Her leadership activities include serving as chair of the CAPD diversity committee and as a site visitor for FIDER, now known as the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.

Carolyn received a bachelor of arts in art history from Mount Holyoke College, a master of arts in the history of architecture with an emphasis on historic preservation from Cornell University, and a master of architecture from Columbia University. Her work at Columbia earned her the William Kinne Traveling Fellowship on two separate occasions.

Her many friends and colleagues provide this citation to Carolyn in acknowledgement of her accomplishments and in appreciation of her service to the Department of Interior Architecture and Product Design; the College of Architecture, Planning and Design; and Kansas State University.
