Lorraine Cutler received a Master of Arts degree in Human Relations and Organizational Behavior from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in environmental design from Arizona State University. Following 20 years of professional practice in corporate commercial interior design, she joined the faculty of the interior design program at Arizona State University in 1991 and served as chair of interior design from 2005-2007. Cutler is interested in research that connects human behavior to facilities planning and management. This research includes human factors and facilities issues for the aging population, developing learning environments in institutions and corporations, and studying collaboration and teamwork dynamics in design decision making. Her funded research includes examination of classroom design related to teaching methodologies, student learning styles and facility management strategic planning. Cutler has held leadership positions in the International Facility Management Association and the International Interior Design Association, and has been team leader for visitation teams for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (formerly FIDER).
Magyar replaces David Sachs, who is returning to full-time teaching
in architecture. Cutler replaces long-time interior
architecture and product design head Steve Murphy,
who retired at the end of the 2006-2007 academic year.
In announcing the appointments, Dennis Law, dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design, said, “Lorri and Peter bring a wealth and diversity of teaching, research and practice experience to our faculty and students. I am very excited and pleased to have them become part of our college’s administrative team.”
