Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Steve Murphy joined K-State in 1968. In 1988, he became the head of the Department of Interior Architecture and Product Design. Steve developed the curriculum for the IAPD furniture design courses and founded the IAPD workshop. After 39 years of dedicated service to K-State, Steve will retire at the end of the 2006-2007 academic year.

Marvin Manlove, a 1968 K-State and CAPD graduate and longtime friend and colleague of Steve, said this, “Steve has done an incredible job of building on the program’s heritage. His leadership of the product design initiative is his personal legacy. This holistic approach to design continues to develop students who are well-rounded designers and in demand by firms across the country.”

Steve and his wife, Sylvia, live in Council Grove, Kansas, and will remain active in the K-State community.
