Students Take Honors in Design Competition

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Four interior architecture and product design students from K-State were among the top winners in the student project category of the 2007 Hospitality Design Awards for Creative Achievement, sponsored by Hospitality Design magazine.

From the more than 40 entries, the judges chose the project submitted by Carly Hillman, Overland Park, KS, and Colleen Wittman, Olathe, KS, to receive the first-place award. The project submitted by Rebecca Bayouth, Lawrence, KS, and Renee Girard, Olathe, KS, was named one of three finalists.

All four students have just completed their fourth year of studies in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. Both of K-State’s winning projects were designs for restaurants.

Professor Neal Hubbell, studio instructor for the projects, said, “We are always excited and proud when our students are recognized for their outstanding work. We are particularly pleased about these awards, as it is the first time our students have entered this competition.”

Winners and finalists will be honored at an awards presentation and celebratory reception in early June in New York City. Images from each project will also be featured in the May/June 2007 issue of Hospitality Design magazine.

The premier trade publication serving the field, Hospitality Design magazine features the work of major interior designers, architects and firms that specifically design hospitality spaces such as restaurants, hotels, resorts, spas, nightclubs, conference centers, senior living facilities and other hospitality-oriented facilities.
