Pat Weisenburger Retires

Saturday, May 15th, 1999

Professor Patricia Weisenburger began her career at KSU as an instructor in the Department of English, and after seven years of teaching English Composition she discovered her true avocation as a librarian. While employed for six years as the Library Assistant in the Weigel Library of Architecture and Design, she earned a Master of Library Science degree from Emporia State University. In 1983, she became the head of the Architecture and Design branch library.  She retired in May of 1999.

An outstanding reference librarian, Professor Weisenburger’s expertise in the fields of study and research in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design is greatly appreciated by the patrons of Weigel Library. Under Professor Weisenburger’s stewardship, Weigel Library has expanded three times. From 1987 to 1995, Professor Weisenburger served as Chair of Branch Library Services, during which time she coordinated the policies and activities of four KSU branch libraries. A grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts enabled Professor Weisenburger to create an annotated catalog of rare books in the Weigel collection. In addition, she has published bibliographies on the works of several prominent architects. While on sabbatical leave at the Art Institute of Chicago, Professor Weisenburger compiled a name index to the 1894-1928 Annual Exhibition Catalogs of the Chicago Architectural Sketch Club. Post sabbatical, she created an index to the illustrations in the catalogs. In addition, she has edited books for several faculty members and has written reviews of architectural books for the Journal of the West and the Southwestern Historical Quarterly.

Professor Weisenburger is a very active member of the Association of Architecture School Librarians and has served as vice president, president, and editor of the organization’s newsletter since 1991.   She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in theatre from the University of Illinois and has utilized this background well in the Friends of KSU Libraries’ fund-raising galas and with the Manhattan Civic Theater.

Her friends and colleagues recognize and appreciate Professor Weisenburger’s many accomplishments and 29 years of service to the users of Weigel Library, Kansas State University Libraries, Kansas State University, the Manhattan community, and the library profession.
