Edward Allen DeVilbiss

Edward Allen DeVilbiss, 71, Manhattan, died March 31, 2001, at Mercy Health Center on College Avenue.

He was born February 4, 1930, in Denver, CO, the son of Edward H. and Josephine (Allen) DeVilbiss. He had been a Manhattan resident for the past 25 years.

He attended Stanford University and the University of Colorado and received a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering in 1953.

He was married to the former Connie McClung on August 2, 1951, at Paonia, CO. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three children, Jeanette DeVilbiss, Lawrence; Cindi DeVilbiss-Sommers, Prairie Village; Barry DeVilbiss, San Ramon, CA; and three grandchildren.

He was a practicing architect in Denver, CO, before joining the faculty of the College of Architecture and Design at Kansas State University, where he was a professor for 18 years. Over the years, he belonged to the American Institute of Architects, serving as president of the Kansas Society in 1985. He was appointed director of architectural services for the State of Kansas in December 1987 and served two years.

He had been a student of piano since the age of five. Music was a large part of his life, playing in jazz and Dixieland bands for many years.

Memorial services will be at 2 pm Saturday, April 21, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Eldon Epp officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in his childhood hometown of Hotchkiss, CO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Flint Hills Parkinson’s Support Group. These gifts will be designated for research. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan.
