Message from the Department Head

Welcome to Kansas State University’s Landscape Architecture and Regional and Community Planning Programs.  Our programs have a long history of providing an enriching educational experience in preparing our graduates for professional careers.  We have an enthusiastic student body, a dedicated faculty with a commitment to teaching excellence and a supportive staff which is responsive to student concerns.

Our student body is composed of students from across the United States as well as students from various international countries.  Our students are passionate about their areas of professional study, enthusiastic about studying in a college that has its programs ranked nationally within the top 10 programs in the country, and appreciate the learning experiences associated with being in an interdisciplinary College.

Planners and landscape architects have important roles in creating healthy and sustainable environments.  Therefore, the foundation of our landscape architecture and planning programs is Stewardship of the Land.  This is emphasized throughout our landscape architecture and planning curriculums.

The first professional degree offered in Landscape Architecture and Regional and Community Planning at Kansas State University is a master’s degree.  Our programs in Landscape Architecture (MLA) and Regional and Community Planning (MRCP) provide the opportunity for a student to obtain a master’s degree either as a non-baccalaureate or a post-baccalaureate student.

  • MLA for non-baccalaureate students requires an 11 semester course of study.
  • MLA for post-baccalaureate students requires 7 semesters.
  • MRCP for non-baccalaureate students requires 10 semesters.
  • MRCP for post-baccalaureate students requires 4 semesters of study.

Both the Landscape Architecture and Regional and Community Planning Programs are accredited by their respective national accreditation agencies.

  • Master of Science in Community Development

The MS degree program in Community Development is a 36 credit hour program which is an Online Collaborative Inter-Institutional Degree program offered in the LA/RCP Department through the Graduate School at KSU in cooperation with the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance.

We hope you will continue to examine your career choices and investigations into studying at Kansas State University.  We believe our curriculums are designed to offer students the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for leadership and service in the 21st Century.

Please contact me if you have any questions concerning our master’s programs in Landscape Architecture or Regional and Community Planning for non-baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate students.
