Nearly 120 students in the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design get the chance to hone their interviewing skills with the help of prospective employers.

Representatives of 16 professional architectural and design firms in the United States will take part in the 15th annual College of Architecture, Planning, and Design Mock Interviews held on the K-State campus on Friday, November 10, 2006.

The interviews allow fourth-year, fifth-year and graduate students in the College the chance to practice their interviewing skills in a professional setting and to interact with professionals in their field, according to Tom Hollinberger, Assistant Director of K-State’s Career and Employment Services.  CES and the college jointly sponsor the mock interview event.

“It’s our understanding that K-State’s College of Architecture, Planning, and Design is one of the few architecture colleges that conduct this type of event,” Hollinberger said.  “The architecture mock interviews really have been the catalyst for many students to get jobs,” he said.  “The firms come here because they like to preview our students.  I think another reason for the high participation this year is the rebounding job market.”

The following firms are participating in the mock interviews:

Applied Ecological Services, Brodhead, WI; Beck Group, Dallas, TX; Brennan Beer Gorman, New York, NY; Callison Architecture, Seattle, WA; Canin Associates, Orlando, FL; Cannon Design, St. Louis, MO; Gensler, Chicago, IL; Interior Architects, Denver, CO; Lawrence Group, St. Louis, MO; Mesa, Dallas, TX; Norris Design, Denver, CO; Steelcase, Grand Rapids, MI; Walt Disney Imagineering, Glendale, CA; Williams + Paddon Architects, Roseville, CA; Wilson Associates, Dallas, TX; and Wimberly Allison Tong and Goo, Irvine, CA.

The event was organized by Professors Wendy Ornelas, Allan Hastings and Tony Barnes; students Katie Harms, Laura Indihar, Kelly Moore, Andrew Hess, Jennifer Scruggs, Michelle Keeven, Ashleigh Rogers, Brit Karber, Colleen Wittman, Monica Miller, Mark Ruzicka, Gemma Gough, Jayme Jones and Ethan Primm; CES staff Tom Hollinberger and Mary Ewing; and CAPD staff member Diane Potts.
