An exhibition documenting the history and production of OZ is on display from December 6 through 23, 2004, in the Chang Gallery of the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning, and Design. The Gallery, located at the south entrance on the main floor of Seaton Hall, is open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public without charge from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays. Oz, the student produced, awarding-winning Journal of the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design at Kansas State University, is dedicated to the exploration of ideas in design through the publication of diverse responses to theoretical issues. Each year students seek out essays and projects from leading practitioners, scholars, and artists worldwide. The dialog enriches the staff’s education and the journal serves as a printed record allowing for expanded participation and debate for students, faculty, alumni, and others. Since its inception in 1979, Oz has received accolades and recognitions including the Douglas Haskell Award for Student Journalism from AIA New York and numerous awards for graphic design and printing. The New York Chapter of the AIA and the New York Foundation for Architecture awarded Oz the 2002 Haskell Prize for Student Journalism. According to AIA/New York, the Haskell Award was created "to encourage excellence in writing about architecture and allied subjects." It is awarded annually to articles, essays, or journals written or edited by students. Oz was cited by the jury for the "high degree of professionalism shown by the publication. The choice of material, its editing, the straightforwardness of the layout and design of the articles were all quite excellent. It is also quite remarkable that this is the publication’s 23rd year." Oz is underwritten through gifts from its many friends—firms, individuals, foundations, and professional organizations—as well as through the generosity of the Kansas State University Fine Arts Fee.
