The managing director and principal of the Chicago office of
BOX Studios will present the 2010-2011 Lee A. Bryant Memorial Lecture on Art
and Architecture sponsored by the Kansas State University College of
Architecture, Planning and Design.
VISIONS of the Past and Present:
25 Years in the Field
will be presented by Ferdinand R. Dimailig, AIA, on Friday,
October 1, at 1:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre of the K-State Student Union. The
lecture is open to the public without charge.
Prior to joining BOX Studios, Dimailig started the company
FUEL design collaborative with fellow business partner Daniel J. Kraiss in 2001.
Their successful practice involved a conscious effort to maintain a diverse
portfolio of project types, allowing the organization to sustain profitability
in an ever changing economically market.
Mr. Dimailig has over 20 years of architecture and interior
design experience in local, national and international markets. His varied
architectural and interior knowledge has enhanced his diverse background in
both the design and technical aspects of the profession. He co-directs all
internal and external business activities for the Chicago studio. Dimailig’s
continued success is attributed to his business integrity, professional client
relationships and continued project involvement. His diverse experiences have
included base-building, educational, multi-family housing, health care, government,
mixed use, retail, corporate and hospitality/restaurant.
Selected experiences include 2620 Washington Lofts, a
109,000 square foot mixed use project,
Metro on Melrose, an 80,000 square foot multi-family residential
project, and Osaka, a 2,500 square foot restaurant, all in Chicago; as well as the
Amenity Center, a 10,000 square foot “sustainable” educational project in
Bloomington, Indiana.
Mr. Dimailig has been a part-time professor in the interior
design department at the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago for over nine
years. The school has been selected by the journal “Design Intelligence” as one
of the top ten “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools – 2009.” As a
teacher, he understands the value of field experience. He has interned over 40
students at his firm, exposing them to the varied practice of the profession.
The Lee A. Bryant Memorial Lectures on Art and Architecture
honor 1970 architecture alumnus Lee Bryant who died of a stroke in 1981 at the
age of 40. The lecture series is a living tribute to Bryant’s passion for art
and a fitting means for sharing with future generations of students his concern
for the vital interaction of art and architecture.
Practicing design professionals who wish to receive
continuing education credit for their attendance at this lecture should contact
Diane Potts.
