The 2009-2010 College of Architecture, Planning, and Design
lecture and exhibit activities continue with an event that is part of K-State’s
annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Week. Kiku Obata will deliver a
lecture entitled
Transformation
Through Design
at 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday, January 20, in the Little Theatre of the K-State Student Union. The
event is open to the public without charge.
Kiku Obata is the founder of Kiku Obata & Company, a strategy and design
firm based in St. Louis that is focused on transforming how people think about
and experience a product, company or place. The core of the company’s work
looks deeply into how people interact and function, interpret cultural trends,
synthesize research and ideas, and craft original and enduring design.

Branding, Environmental Graphics, St. Louis, MO; and Pin-Up Bowl, The Legends,
Kansas City, KS.
Honors the firm’s work has received include a “Winners Circle” for creative and
technical achievements in graphic design from the American Institute of Graphic
Arts/St Louis for the design of a women’s shoe store, and a Platinum/Best of
Category award and seven Awards of Merit in the Creativity 36 annual
competition that recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals in any
discipline.
Obata holds a bachelor of art from Stanford University. Her
professional affiliations include the American Institute of Architects Retail
and Entertainment Knowledge Community, the Society for Environmental Graphic
Design, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the International Council of
Shopping Centers and the Institute of Store Planners.
This
event is funded by the K-State Student Fine Arts fee.
