process in architecture:  della Voce

will be exhibited in the Chang Gallery of Seaton Hall from February 11-22, 2008.  The Chang Gallery is open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. without charge.

How does a space, even a tiny one, become a piece of architecture? Using Manhattan restaurant della Voce as an example, this exhibit demonstrates the process used to answer to that question, from initial conception through final product.

The exhibit will showcase construction photographs, initial design sketches, music, test benches, menu development, construction drawings, material samples, the process of art images from the photographs on the wall to the images on the ceiling, as well as thoughts about the process by team members during different stages of the project’s development.

The hard work of the many people along the way who helped make the restaurant a reality will be part of the exhibit, including:  owners Noah Reagan, Melvin Watson and Sharon Reagan (Manhattan); designers Bob Condia and Wendy Ornelas, (KSU College of Architecture, Planning and Design) and Emily Koenig (B ARCH 1998, Architect One, Topeka); and ceiling mural by Larry Bowne (KSU College of Architecture, Planning and Design).

Also included will be photography by Rod Mikinski (Manhattan); mechanical, electrical and plumbing consulting by Cory Bandel (PKMR Engineers, Topeka); contractor Wally Schrempp and contractor foreman Scott Pugh (W.W. Schrempp Construction, Topeka); upholstery by Melissa Watton (B IAR 2002, Abilene); subcontracting by V&V Electric (Olsburg); mechanical and plumbing by Reid Plumbing, Heating and Air (Manhattan); painting by Dillon Painting (Manhattan); drywall subcontracting by Hi Tech Interiors (Manhattan); benches by Triad Manufacturing (Salina); cabinetry by Crestwood Cabinetry (Salina); stainless steel by Dargal Clark Industries (Topeka); signage and sign/image installation by J & S Signs (Manhattan); and architect of record Scott Gales (principal, Architect One, Topeka).
