Entries for the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning, and Design Fifteenth Annual Student Rendering Competition are being displayed in the Chang Gallery of Seaton Hall through Friday, May 2. The exhibit is open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. The competition was open to all graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, including those enrolled in the academic programs located in Kansas City. According to competition organizer Fayez Husseini, professor of interior architecture and product design, there were three competition objectives: to promote interaction and constructive competition between students in the college regardless of major or level; to expose faculty and students to top-quality student work, to discover hidden talent, and to encourage students with special skills to market and express their talent; and to gain intellectual, emotional and monetary recognition from faculty, staff and students. The competition jury was composed of Professor Lynda Andrus, Department of Art, K-State; Professor Chris Ford, College of Architecture, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Dean John Gaunt FAIA, School of Architecture and Urban Design, University of Kansas; and Mr. Ted Knapp, K-State architecture alumnus and principal, TK Architects, Kansas City. Fifteen of the 71 entries in the blind competition were selected to receive awards: Freehand, Black and White: First Place - Joshua Winter, third-year architecture, Westbrook, MN; Second Place - Lindsay Whitehead, third-year architecture, Houston, TX; Third Place - Tony McGrail, third-year architecture, Jefferson City, MO. Freehand, Color: First Place - John Perry, post-baccalaureate graduate student in landscape architecture, Sioux Falls, SD; Second Place - Brad Price, third-year architecture, Kansas City, MO; Third Place - Lucie Pracnova, fourth-year architecture, Czech Republic; Honorable Mention - Sarah Schwartz, fifth-year architecture, St. Louis, MO; Honorable Mention - Mamdouh Medhat Altashkandi, post-baccalaureate graduate student in architecture, Saudi Arabia. Mixed Media: First Place - Adrienne Stolwyk, fifth-year architecture, Liberty, MO; First Place - Joshua Perez, third-year architecture, Manhattan, KS. Computer: First Place - the team of Brittany Trupka and Kevin Veerhusen, fifth-year architecture, Shawnee and Herington, KS, respectively; Second Place - Stephanie Pile, third-year architecture, Centennial, CO; Third Place - Carrie Bly, third-year architecture, Waconia, MN; Honorable Mention - Jacob Strobl, fifth-year architecture, Woodland Park, CO; Honorable Mention - Jeffrey Rice, fifth-year architecture, Jefferson City, MO. Prizes valued at $100 for First
Place, $75 for Second Place, $50 for Third Place and $30 for Honorable Mention
