Preparing to Leave the College

What you need to do when you leave campus

There are important steps to follow for those who leave our college network due to summer break, internship or graduation.

This document is provided to help students prepare their computers for removal from our college network.  Our goal is to address problems many students encounter after leaving our network. 

Some of the most common problems are:

  • Students cannot log into their CAPDKSU domain account or access information they had saved on their systems.

  • Students do not or are unable to uninstall software that is licensed for campus use only.

  • Students have forgotten their username and password.

Procedure

You should follow these instructions before you remove your computer from the college network.

Preparing Profile for Departure

Every student should have at least two accounts on their system, one that is local to the system and one for the college network. 

When you remove your computer from the college network, the system will no longer be able to authenticate your college account to our servers.  This means your CAPDKSU domain profile will be inaccessible, and you will only be able to log on with your local account.  Ensure you know your local account information and password.

Before leaving the Seaton network it is best to backup or copy the data stored under your CAPDKSU account profile .

Please read the following articles for instructions on how to create a backup and on how to copy data from a user profile to a new profile.

Uninstall College/University owned/licensed software. 

The Autodesk and ESRI software are two application suites licensed for your use on campus.  Once you leave campus, this software is no longer licensed for your use.  You should uninstall this software while on the college network.  Follow these steps below:

  • Be sure to set boot.ini file to “AlwaysOff”.

  • Use Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel
    Do not delete folders from the hard drive, it does not uninstall the program and it will break your ability to uninstall the software properly.

  • Uninstall all University licensed applications, such as Autodesk and ESRI.

  • Be sure to set boot.ini file to “AlwaysOn”.

Disjoin the domain

Before leaving you must also disjoin your workstation from the CAPDKSU Domain and ensure you know your local account information.
