Larry King has long played an active role in fostering educational excellence through generous gifts of time, counsel and other contributions in support of the endeavors of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University.

With more than 30 years of experience in architecture, strategic design, planning and corporate general management, Larry is a comprehensive resource for the structuring and implementation of long-term occupancy strategies as well as design solutions requiring sensitivity to client goals.

He founded the Chicago office of the interior architecture firm IA and had been managing principal of the New York and Chicago offices prior to his recent relocation to the Denver office as managing principal.

Before joining IA, Larry worked for 16 years with the architecture firm Gensler, where he served as managing principal of the Denver office. He also was chief operating officer for the national offices of PHH Environments, a Fortune 50 financial services company, and a partner in the international architectural and engineering firm of Perkins & Will. During Larry's 16 years of practice in Denver during the 1970's and 1980's, he was a board member of the Denver Partnership, Denver Urban & Renewal Authority, Denver Center for Performing Arts, The Denver Club and Colorado Ballet.

Larry received the bachelor of architecture from K-State in 1971. NCARB-certified and a registered architect in 31 states, he is a participating member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Vice President and board member of the Denver AIA Chapter, Urban Land Institute Executive Council Colorado Chapter, Corenet Rocky Mountain Chapter Board of Directors, a member of International Facilities Managers Association and The Economic Club of Chicago. He is the past Illinois State chairman and member of the national board of directors of the Council of Growing Companies, and a past board member of the University Club and the Tower Club of Chicago. A frequent speaker and panelist, Larry is a board member Heartland Alliance, Harrington College of Design, as well as division chair for the 2006 Mile High United Way campaign.

A current member and former chair of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design Dean's Professional Advisory Board, Larry was instrumental in establishing a set of goals and objectives to direct that group's activities. Under Larry's leadership, key alumni from diverse professions, offices and regions have come together to form a blue-ribbon team of advisory board members for the college. To support students currently studying in the college, Larry also funded a scholarship that bears his name.

We are privileged to count Larry King among the alumni of our College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, and we are proud to nominate him to receive a Kansas State University Distinguished Service Award.
