Dr. Stuart W. Rose has artfully combined his professional skills and experiences in architecture with those in administration of higher education to render distinguished service to the environmental design professions through high quality and innovative programs of professional development.

Studies at Kansas State University for the Bachelor of Architecture and the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering were followed by the Master of Architecture at the University of Washington and the Ph.D. in Administration and Higher Education at Michigan State University. Professional architectural experience with firms in St. Louis preceded faculty positions in architecture at the University of Nebraska, the University of Cincinnati, and at the University of North Carolina where he was chairman of the second-year design studio faculty.

This varied background led the American Institute of Architects to invite Dr. Rose to become Director of its Continuing Education Programs, a post he held until he founded Professional Development Resources, Inc. more than a decade ago. Today, Stuart Rose serves as Executive Director of this Washington D.C. firm which conducts one-, two- and three-day programs on a diversity of subjects across the United States and Canada for the American Institute of Architects, the American Consulting Engineers Council, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers, the Institute of Business Designers, the Society of American Registered Architects, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

His client list for professional development services also includes many individual firms engaged in architecture, engineering and other professional design disciplines. Stuart Rose makes time in his hectic schedule to visit schools of architecture as he did last spring at Kansas State when he donated his services and led a Saturday workshop on marketing for fifth-year students in architecture, interior architecture and landscape architecture.

His extraordinary command of the subject matter, a relaxed informal manner which quickly entices even the most reticent attendee to become an active participant, and his obvious belief in the importance of life-long learning combine to mark Stuart W. Rose, AIA, an extraordinarily valuable resource for the environmental design professions and an alumnus of Kansas State University who is richly deserving of this Distinguished Service Award.
