![]() Michael McNamara When Professor Michael McNamara joined the faculty in 1988, he was hired for his accomplishments in practice, community service, and teaching, and for demonstrated talents in design, management, art, and institutional facility planning. His selfless approach to teaching is a remarkable trait in a discipline where classes (especially studio) often are seen as vehicles for faculty egos and personal agendas. This quality has made Professor McNamara a versatile and invaluable asset in the department. Faced with challenging and varied assignments, Professor McNamara has consistently upheld high standards and personal integrity. His student evaluations are excellent, and his rapport with students is outstanding. He insists that his students work toward buildable and affordable structures with consideration of users, environment, and site. The results of his consistent concern for professional standards have particularly influenced our second- and fifth-year studios. He teaches what he practices and in a manner consistent with his considerable real-world experience. Professor McNamara is straightforward, sensitive, demanding, and cogent. |
