Faculty Position Announcement
Assistant or Associate Professor of Interior Architecture and Product Design: full-time, 9 month, tenure-track position to begin in August 2010.
Required Duties and Responsibilities:
The faculty seeks an individual with the ability to contribute to the curricula of interior architecture, product design, and furniture design.
Applicants should demonstrate teaching expertise in the following areas:
Ability to teach all levels of undergraduate and graduate interior architecture studios, with primary emphasis in graduate level interior architecture studios.
Ability to teach CAD applications including REVIT and 3-D computer modeling programs.
Ability to teach one or more lecture courses in additional subjects related to Interior Architecture, i.e., design theory, materials and finishes, construction documents, etc.
Oversee and coordinate student internships
Faculty duties include:
Commitment to creative, effective teaching in the department core curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Collegial participation in departmental and college governance.
Assist in the on-going development of the first professional graduate curriculum.
Support team effort in the development of interior architecture and product design course sequencing.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in interior architecture /interior design, architecture, or related design field.
Demonstrated university or college teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to develop a research/creative activity focus for future promotion and tenure
Qualify for membership on the KSU Graduate Faculty (http://www.k-state.edu/grad/gscurrent/handbook/chap5.htm)
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrable background and experience in interior architecture/interior design and/or furniture design
Familiarity with sustainable design issues and use of sustainable materials
Interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary experience in teaching, practice or research
In process or passed the NCIDQ exam or LEED certification
Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Professorial rank is dependent upon experience and qualifications.
The Department:
Located in a multi-disciplinary college of design in a land-grant institution, the department values collaboration and service to our professions and communities. The department has recently converted its curriculum to a five-year Masters of Interior Architecture and Product Design program (MIAPD), first-professional degree. The CIDA accredited program (since 1974) is built upon a 40-year tradition of providing students with a nationally recognized and innovative education. Our current curriculum changes and faculty recruitment efforts are intended to continue this tradition well into the 21st century. Teaching:

With appointment at the rank of assistant professor, the maximum probationary period for gaining tenure and promotion to associate professor consists of six regular annual appointments at Kansas State University.
Associate Professor
Meets all criteria expected of assistant professors in addition to a higher level of accomplishment.
Teaching:
Updates, revises, and/develops course material as appropriate for the field
Coordinates and responsibly supervises practical/internships/field placements
Achieves graduate faculty status
Serves as an effective member on masters and doctoral committees
Serves as an advisor for masters and doctoral students
Research/Creative Activities:
Continues to develop research and/scholarship/creative activity appropriate to the discipline for dissemination to peers in the profession through refereed conferences, publications, exhibits or awards.
Obtains or continues graduate faculty status
Service:
Collaborates with professional colleagues in service activities
Demonstrates potential leadership in local, regional, state, national and/or international levels of the profession
For persons appointed at the rank of associate professor or professor, the maximum probationary period for gaining tenure consists of five regular annual appointments at Kansas State University at probationary ranks.
